Congratulations to GM Alex Moiseyev for retaining his
Ohio State Championship Title! (highest finishing resident)
-
No honor points for this division as they
played 7 Rounds of 3-Move Round Robin.
-
Class A got delayed by a lengthy adjudication
process.
-
As always, Rich Beckwith did an admirable job combining the roles of
organizer/referee and player, particularly given the extra stresses of dealing
with a film crew and making a tough adjudication decision on one of the Class A
games.
-
Total Class A Cash Prize $360.00.
-
Vince Delong visited the tournament and including Ed "Pal" Bucker but didn't play
because of illness.
-
We had 17 participants representing 7 states and 4 countries.
-
Contributions were received from Joe LoConti ($240), Rich Beckwith ($57 +
playing room charge), Howard Hoover ($25), Michael Holmes ($23), Ted Williamson
($20), Gene Ellison ($10), Steve Holliday (2 books, snacks). Howard Hoover
won a raffle for a glass chess/checker/backgammon set, and donated back his cash
prize.
-
First day of GAYP-WCM action on Monday
(King vs Kondlo) September 8-13, 2008.

Class B division
played 7 Rounds of 3-Move
Swiss.
A film crew produce a documentary on checkers and they've
interviewing players and taking pictures. The newspaper will also do an
article.
John Acker reported, "I had a fairly good tourney, losing only one game to Joe
despite being in bad positions at several other points. We had a bit of a
statistical oddity after Round 6: since neither Jan nor I (we were playing each
other) had had a bye round yet, Jan figured out that if he lost the match then
he would be guaranteed a 3-point bye and at least 2nd place, while if I lost or
drew, I would have the same advantage. As it turned out I had a win and a draw
with Jan (the draw was a nice game, which I'll post later) and a win and a draw
with Neil in the final, but that was the first time I've ever seen someone get
more points for losing than winning!"
Total Class B Cash Prize $195.00 and Total Tournament Cash
Prize $555.00.
